Every spring, the Home & Landscape Show arrives in Glendale and starts turning heads. It is clear to see why. After all, there’s not much better than thinking about a bit of planting and planning. Many of our clients make spring the time they do renovations – with the high heat in Mesa in July; you don’t want to be worrying about building a shed. But, before you launch your project, there are a few steps to take. It starts with a call to your home insurance agent at Jarosch Insurance.
Why We Need to Hear from You
If you were lucky enough to attend the show this year, or have gone previously, you know there are some fantastic ways to transform the space in your backyard. That’s great – making your home a better fit for your lifestyle is always beneficial. But, many projects our homeowners are doing are boosting the value of their property above their current insurance limits. Let’s give you an example.
Most standard home insurance policies have Coverage A – Dwellings. This provides financial protection for the actual structure of the home. Then, you have Coverage B – Other Structures. This covers other, often detached structures on your property, like garages, decks, sheds, and fencing. The maximum claim on Coverage B is generally no more than 10 percent of the value of Coverage A. That can be limiting if you plan to build large new structures.
The Types of Projects That Require a Call
We encourage you to call us and let us know what you are planning to do. Your Mesa home insurance agent can answer any specific questions or take a trip out to your home to check it out. You don’t have to worry about things like adding trees or flowers. But, these projects can warrant a call to us.
Investing in New Garages
A garage or a shed is a large structure. Depending on the size, you may need to consider your insurance carefully. Some residents build large structures that house landscaping equipment or their sports gear. You may even have a hobby shed with your race car stored in it. No matter what it is, we need to make sure the value of your home insurance policy is enough.
Decks, Fences, and Porches
Most often, a basic deck will be in line with your coverage. An expansive one may not be. It is important to consider any of these structures carefully. Our team will help answer your questions about concerns related to regulations in the area for fencing and decks.
Outdoor Kitchens, Fire Pits, and Grilling Areas
Sometimes these structures can be covered under Coverage B, but not always. The key to remember here is that these add risk to your home. Your general liability insurance can help cover those risks, such as a guest being burned at your outdoor event.
Pools Are a Big Factor
If you are adding a pool – or remodeling an existing one like many of our homeowners are doing – this is important. Give our team a call. Let us talk to you about the pool and add it to your policy. This, too, is a high-risk addition. That doesn’t mean you can’t have it, but we need to note it in your policy to make sure you have coverage.
We encourage you to give Jarosch Insurance a call to discuss each of these or other projects you’re planning. Doing so can really safeguard your property going forward and gives you peace of mind should you need to file a claim later.
